Woodchucks are Groundhogs, Too, or do You Prefer to Call Them Whistle-Pigs, or Perhaps . . . Land Beavers?

The groundhog (or woodchuck) is actually a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. We have a groundhog living in our back yard--our forecasted sunny skies did not show up on Ground Hog Day, so our little guy could not have seen his shadow.  According to folk lore, this means Spring will come early.  Is it possible that our non-winter winter is going to turn directly into Spring?

Back at the ranch, the truly secret sauce of portable machining happens before we leave our shop where we build our portable machine tools and fixtures so please, if you can, continue sending those work scopes, early.

Troubles in the Coal Line Causing You to Lose Your Fine?
Not a Problem--We Do That, Too!

Field System Machining recently completed coal pulverizer shaft journal repairs at a large Midwestern power plant.  The coal line is not an easy place to work--it was designed to handle and crush coal--not provide an easy environment in which to machine.  But then, if it was easy everyone would do it, right? The challenges with this repair were that a) the plant wanted to go back to size, so undercut-and-run was not an option; b) the shaft journal was not accessible to feeding a shrunken sleeve all the way from the end; and c) the shaft could not be rotated.  FSM manufactured a split sleeve, undercut the journal with our stationary journal machine, welded the sleeve in place, and machined it back to the coal pulverizer shaft manufacturer's original OD specification.  You call, we haul, that's all.
